POETRY
Strangely enough, the pandemic helped me restart writing poetry. In the early days of lockdown, the word “ANTIDOTE” blasted its way into my awareness during a nap. I got the feeling that I needed to start doing things that would be an antidote to the challenges we were experiencing. I figured writing in poetry could help document it, and my Antidote project was born.
That specific project kept up for a couple of years, and the main focus was on falling in love with nature and the more-than-human world in ever-deepening ways. That’s been a constant theme within my poetry ever since. Antidote wound down in 2023, though I kept a semi-regular writing practice up afterwards.
In the fall of 2025, I was dumbstruck by the beauty of Rosalía’s album Lux. I was especially enamored with the language and how some of the songs revealed her relationship with the divine. It inspired me to start writing a poem every morning. I called them morning poes with a nod to the phantasmal ghosts in Zelda and to Edgar Allan Poe. As of the fall of 2026, I’m still working in the morning poe structure.
In the spring of 2026 while living and wandering around a gentrifying neighborhood in Fort Worth, I created a small project called Classics Become Content. It is part poetry, part photography, part webpage. You can view just the poems through the Classics Become Content tag or view the entire collective project webpage.
