Periwinkle Streetlights & Cantaloupe-Colored Sunrises

Fort Worth, TX

Under periwinkle streetlights

I think of blackened Time

And my lack of it

All the shapes I’d like to make

And forms I wish to take

But like a creative caterpillar caught in a spider’s web

I struggle in angst

Doomed to wiggle and writhe

Potential —

Beautiful —

Artful —

Metamorphosis stolen by sticky strands of silk

Forced instead into kinetic action until I become fodder and food

I cross a gated threshold

Solid stone topped with tell-told lanterns

And cross the border again

Just to see

Nothing new

Besides quaint coffee

And a cantaloupe-colored sunrise behind the city skyline

I suppose I have time enough

To wander these wealthy streets

And write poetry

Like some dilettante bourgeoisie
